I am currently on spring break and I have a wonderful opportunity of staying with some friends of mine who currently attend Westminster Seminary in Escondido. As you may know I am currently in my second year of my undergrad program at Providence Christian College and has been such a blessing. Im getting a minor in biblical languages (Greek and Hebrew) but I have been struggling to see the need of these languages as well as learning them.
I'm almost done with my second year of Greek and next semester I will be in my third year of Greek and first year of Hebrew. Thinking about it I use to get very overwhelmed. Since this break I have realized the dedication it takes to learn these languages and the time and effort one must put in to truly understand the material.
These Biblical languages are very important to know and understand for those who really want to understand tscripture in a much deeper level. With me wanting to go on to graduate school I will need to know these languages well to keep up with my classes (but ive learned that this is not the main reason). These are all good and dandy but the real exciting part is that we are able to read and understand God's word in the original languages He decided to have the apostles write it in.
In this video Dr. Estelle (A Prof at Westminster) has very encouraging words to say about the importance of these languages and has been very encouraging to me. Being at my friends house and attending some classes at Westminster over my break I see the time and effort it takes to know the languages and even better is the amazing reward one gets by putting these tools to work in the Word of God. May you all who are studying the Biblical languages not give up and remember the reason why you are learning them...to read and understand the Word of God! And for those who are not learning them at this moment I would like to encourage you to try and take some classes if possible. It is a wonderful opportunity to learn Gods word and the flowers are indeed much better to smell then just simply looking at them!
